Colon Detox – A Necessary Remedy For Good Bowel Movement
Be it western medical science or Indian Ayurveda or any other system of herbal medicine, all of them focus on a good bowel movement. The cleansing of the bowel means having a good excretory system. This means the body is regularly getting rid of all the toxic waste that is being accumulated from the food we digest. Hatha yoga also suggests that we should make sure to cleanse our colon thoroughly once a week using lukewarm salt water. There are certain yogic exercises prescribed which have to be practiced for the bowel to work and release the toxins.
Naturopathy also advises a few techniques of colon detoxification. Some methods involve the famous lemonade diet discovered by Dr. Stanley Burrough. There are other oriental methods such as going on a diet of different kinds of sprouts once a day. Depending on a diet which contains a lot of fiber is also a good way of cleansing the colon.
Colon cleansing is a part of our human anatomy which should take place regularly. The bowel movement should happen at least two to three times a day which denotes a proper functioning of the digestive and excretory system. When these two end up with malfunctions, toxic waste builds up in the body increasing impurities in the blood which in turn causes problems like skin diseases, cancer, constipation and also heart diseases. Detoxifying the colon also means to improve the mucus formation in the intestine which allows smooth passing of stool. Increasing fiber in the diet allows stool to pass more smoothly. A greater amount of waste is excreted for the same pressure exerted. This is what fiber does. Green vegetables must be added to the diet.
Bean sprouts, black gram sprouts, moong sprouts are all good form of fibers. They can be allowed to grow till the roots are half an inch long and then mixed with a nice green salad for dinner. Sprouts can be taken on empty stomach in the morning also. This diet will ensure a very good cleansing of the colon and at the same time reduce obesity, increase metabolic rate, digestion and improve energy levels and stamina.
It is also important to drink at least three liters of water everyday. The more water you drink the much better for the system to cleanse itself from waste, excess minerals and salts from the body. Regular exercise helps to improve the bowel movement.
Walking, running and even yoga helps to cleanse the system. Some schools of yoga advise drinking a lot of water before doing yoga, and also in between the practice. This system of drinking water and doing the Asanas, frees the bowel restrictions and helps easy passage of waste. This is a very good cure for constipation.
Enema is considered a good way of cleansing the colon. Injecting water into the lower colon using enema kits is a good way. Natural yogic cleansing exercises like Nauli, Laghoo shankhpraskshalana are very good ways of flushing the intestine. The former practice involves sucking the water through the anus and releasing it out, while the latter is about drinking lukewarm saltwater and doing exercises for bowel movement.
